I was born and raised in Austria, where I attended a High School with focus on Tourism studies. After I finished school, I went to the UK to complete my BA(Hons) in Tourism at the University of Derby. Not entirely sure of what to do next I decided to enrol in a Masters programme and graduated a year later with an MA in Tourism Management. During my Masters year, I found an interest in Tourism and Information Technology issues and decided to write my MA dissertation about a related topic. After I finished, I was still intrigued with IT issues, especially the Internet and relating consumer aspects and issues. When I was offered to stay on at university to study for a PhD, I gladly accepted and decided to study the use of the Internet in tourism related studies more in-depth.
I decided to use a niche market – the grey market – as the focus for my PhD thesis, which concentrates on online decision-making (especially information search aspects) and information provision in tourism. I hope to submit my thesis in later 2005.
I moved to Auckland to fill the position of a Lecturer of Travel & Tourism at AUT in early 2005
