Prior to becoming a lecturer, I had 15 years economic research experience, beginning in Statistics New Zealand in the area of agriculture,then as the leader of the Statistics Unit in the Economics Division of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries.
From 1984 to 1991, I was the Director of Research at what is now called Tourism New Zealand.
In 1989, I spent the year on an executive exchange with Tourism Canada, based in Ottawa
In 1992 founding director of YONIQ a frozen yoghurt retail business
Co-editor with Alan Collier of Tourism Industry Management
