I originally come from former Yugoslavia and before I have moved to the UK in 2003 I lived in New Zealand for 10 years. Although my career took different directions, intentionally or accidentally, management seems to have always been the key ward in it. I have been managing people, businesses and research. I have an extensive industry experience obtained in different business environments with respect to political, socio-economic and cultural context. I worked in the tourism and hospitality industry for a number of years in the capacity of various managerial positions, as well as owned and ran my own small-scale business. The latter largely triggered my interest to study problems and issues facing SMEs (small to medium sized enterprises).

In my recently completed PhD thesis I explored the managerial issues of small tourism/hospitality firms' across varying geographical, economic, environmental and community contexts. The study aims to advance theory relating to entrepreneurship focusing on the small tourism & hospitality sector by the synthesis of concepts drawn from an amalgamation of paradigms currently evident within management, small firms and tourism literature. The synthesis of theory and practice has been aided throughout research projects by my own practical experience of owning and managing a small tourism firm.

While researching the regulatory contexts of small tourism firm, I have developed strong relationships with a number of organizations from public and private sectors attracting several research grants. During my PhD study I had a role as a research coordinator of a number of tourism-related projects specifically related to tourism supply and the small tourism sector that dominate the New Zealand tourism/hospitality industry. In several other projects, related to consumer perspective, initiated by the Victoria Tourism Research Group, I also acted as a researcher (developing research tools, conducting fieldwork and doing data analysis).
