Biography

Based in AUT’s Faculty of Business, Bill plays a senior role in coordinating teaching and research in the area of eBusiness. Bill’s research interests include information technology and organisation, the organisational implications of electronic commerce, and the sociology of technology. He has over 30 refereed publications in conferences and journals such as Information Systems Journal, Journal of Information Technology, Organization, and Organization Studies.

 

 

Current research projects

Organisational adoption of e-business technologies
This research focuses on how organisations view their changing operational environments and how they assess the digital technologies that will accommodate them. A current project, in collaboration with Dr Indrit Troshani (University of Adelaide), looks at the development and adoption of XBRL, an XML-based financial reporting standard. Bill also supervises a number of research students who are examining the adoption and use of technologies such as mobile data solutions, mobile banking and customer relationship management applications.

Use of the Internet in the tourism Industry
This research looks at the adoption of the Internet as a destination marketing medium by regional tourism organisations in New Zealand and Australia, including the social and political processes involved in shaping the use of the Web in these organisations.

Negotiating the boundaries of biotechnology in New Zealand
This research is part of a large five-year FoRST-funded project lead by Professor Judy Motion (University of Waikato). The initial research involves mapping the discourses around the New Zealand Moratorium on Genetic Modification, and exploring the factors shaping the trajectory of biotechnology innovation in New Zealand.
