Dr Philip Carter is Director of the Usability Research Group. This group has applied usability practices in both commercial and research projects. We have worked to liberate usability testing from restrictive procedures and specialists so that it can be used by a wider range of people involved in software development. In addition, we have found that when usability expands out to include usefulness and what works well, it becomes much more generative. The group seeks to build awareness and precision in the practice of usability testing.
