Duong Giang Nguyen

Duong Giang NGUYEN joined NZTRI in March 2011. His PhD research will aid our understanding of the links between tourism and community economic development in Vietnam. This will, in turn, enable policy makers to achieve the broader government objective of building stronger economic linkages between tourism and the poorer sections of society. The case studies are chosen because they exemplify a large number of communities around the country that are attempting to focus on traditional economic activities to re-kindle job creation. Both are villages that focus on one key commodity and in which visitors can experience not just buying the goods produced but also seeing how they are produced and getting a sense of the link between this economic activity and the broader socio-cultural fabric of the community.

Duong Giang holds Master degree in Tourism Management from the University of Perpignan – in France (2006-2007) and a European Master Degree in Hotel Management from Institute Vatel – Nimes in France (2005 -2006). He works in Sales and Marketing Department, and also in charge of all the environmental activities of the Saigontourist Holding Company, the biggest tourism corporation in Vietnam. As the Vice Director of the Saigontourist Green Club, which was organized from the year 2006, he also consults for EMS building and implementing for 16 hotels and resorts of the company, and is the member of the Steering Committee of the “Green Lotus Label” in hospitality industry of Vietnam.

I am very happy to have the chance to do my research at NZTRI, where I can study a global perspective about tourism and hospitality from other professional experts. I do believe that “The more I learn, the more I go, and the more I explore...”
