Dominik Huber
Dominik Huber joined NZTRI in February 2011. His research interests are located in the area of travel behavior with special focus on elderly people. According to this his PhD deals with the impacts of family life cycle stages on travel behavior of seniors. The study aims to get a better understanding of watersheds in seniors’ life environment like becoming grandparents, the lost of the spouse or losing the ability of independent life. Results shall sensitize the travel industry to the special circumstances of this age group and provide travel operators and destination managers with new insights of this increasing and partially neglected market.
Dominik holds a diploma degree in human geography with focus on urban planning, spatial variation of social phenomena and tourism geography. He went to universities in Munich (LMU and TU) in Christchurch, N.Z. (UC) and finished his studies 2007 at TU and Humboldt University in Berlin. The recent research interest aroused while he was examining the action space behavior of senior tourists in Usedom/Germany for his diploma thesis.
Before Dominik moved to New Zealand to begin with his PhD, he worked in different fields related with geography and tourism like urban planning, tourism and energy consulting or land surveying in Germany and Switzerland.
I am very pleased to have the opportunity to conduct my research at NZTRI for several reasons, not only professional reasons but also due to the amenities of the high quality of live in New Zealand. Even if I just recently started my PhD at NZTRI I am already certain to find myself in a most competent working environment that is willing to support me as well as possible, personally and professionally.
