Mark Orams: Future post-graduate student enquiries

I welcome enquiries from potential post-graduate research students at Honours, Masters and PhD
level.

Potential topics include:

  • Locals only: An exploration of attitudes and interactions between ‘local’ and ‘non-local’ surfers at surf-breaks.
  • Motivations, characteristics and activities of visitors to Cape Rodney – Okakari Point Marine Reserve, Leigh, New Zealand.
  • Yacht cruising in the South Pacific: An overview of the activity and its impacts.
  • X-tourists: Exploring the motivations and activities of extreme adventure tourism.
  • The rise of master’s sport: Motivations and characteristics of competitors in master’s games sporting events.
  • Impacts of recreation and tourism on New Zealand fur-seals at Sugar Loaf Islands Marine Protected Area, Taranaki, New Zealand.

Potential students are welcome to develop their own research topics and to discuss them with me.
Please be aware of the entry requirements for students wishing to pursue post-graduate degrees at
AUT University. Click here for further information.

Note that international PhD students supervised by a ‘leading researcher’ are only assessed
domestic (local) fees (in 2009 these are around NZ$6,000 per year). Thus, if you are an international
student wishing to undertake a PhD at AUT under my supervision you will only have to pay the New
Zealand local tuition rate, not the full international student rate.

International students have additional entry requirements and, in the first instance, they should
contact AUT University’s International Student office for specific information on those requirements.

A variety of scholarships are available click here for information on scholarships.
