Some of our recent success stories include:

  • NZTRI's research and modelling have helped the NZ Ski Areas Association to improve its understanding of the national economic value of snow sports and to gain insights into the sector's vital role in regional development.

  • Western Southland's ability to compete as a tourism destination has been greatly enhanced by the community driven tourism and information technology strategies designed and implemented by NZTRI

  • NZTRI's work in Northeast Iceland has led to the completion of a five year tourism plan. As a result of the work, local stakeholders have formed eight product cluster groups that are working to create and promote new packages and activities linked to birdwatching, spa and wellness, geotourism, creative tourism, agritourism, marine cultural events, outdoor adventure and winter activities, with increased revenues.

  • NZTRI's research has helped to support tourism opportunities linking aquaculture and seafood on the Top of the South Island. Over the past year two years, a stakeholder survey, business survey and visitor survey have explored the role of innovation in building stronger linkages between the aquaculture and seafood tourism sectors.

  • The research we have conducted for SPARC has permitted them to make decisions based on empirical evidence as opposed to that of the anecdotal variety. In a heavily scrutinized environment such as SPARCs, NZTRI research provides an independent and credible source of evidence.
